Privacy Policy

Overview

Relay is a Chrome extension and a personal project by Philipp Streicher. It records a browser tab into a file on your own computer, for you to give to an AI agent. It has no server, no account and no analytics.

What Relay Records

Only after you start a recording, and only in the tab you chose:

• The tab's video and audio, and still frames from that video
• Your microphone, if you turn it on, and a transcript of it if Chrome has the language pack (see below)
• The page's structure and visible text, and your clicks, scrolls and other interactions, with the visible label of what you clicked. Values typed into form fields and rich-text editors are masked and never used as a label
• For each pen stroke, its outline box and the visible text of up to 5 elements under it, with the same masking
• Console messages, with obvious secrets such as tokens and passwords removed
• Network request metadata: method, URL with query values removed, status and timing. No headers, cookies or request and response bodies

Where It Goes

Relay writes everything into one .zip file in your Downloads folder. Nothing is sent to the developer or to anyone else.

What happens to the file afterwards is up to you; for example, you may give it to an AI tool of your choice.

Transcript

The transcript is made by Chrome's speech recognition with on-device processing required: Relay never lets Chrome send your voice to a server. To turn it on, you click Download in Relay once, and Chrome downloads a language pack from Google. After that, recognition runs on your computer.

Local Storage

Relay stores two settings in Chrome's local extension storage: your video and microphone choice, and the position of the on-page recording control.

Permissions

• Tab capture, offscreen document, microphone: record the tab and your voice
• Debugger: read the tab's console and network activity while recording. Chrome shows a "started debugging this browser" bar during this time
• Scripting, active tab: add the recording control and the interaction recorder to the tab you are recording
• Downloads: save the .zip file
• Storage: remember your settings

Third-Party Services

Relay does not integrate with any analytics, advertising or tracking services, and it loads no remote code.
